Ronée G. Bourgeois, controversial comics columnist who shook the halls of The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, PopCultureShock and the comics press, joins Michael Netzer Online with her legendary column What A Girl Wants... unbridled, unedited and uncut, beginning January 1st, 2007.
Beourgeois majored in Fine Arts at the University of Central Florida in Orlando 1995 but then "quit to do stand up comedy because I was stupid as shit", she states humbly at her MySpace abode. "I am loud, crude, foul-mouthed and offensive while still having a huge heart and the need to help people when I can. I am also a bit of a tree-hugging hippie...."
Her huge heart became evident in the comics community last year when Ronée stepped out on a limb to expose an incident of sexual assault at the Mid-Ohio Con, in her What A Girl Wants column at PopCultureShock, perpetrated against popular fan personality, Taki Soma. Hinting at the accused without specifically naming him, Bourgeois was taken to task as industry reporters errantly attempted to name the assailant. When his identity was finally revealed as that of director of the CBLDF, the comics press rallied to his defense, watering down the veracity of the assault and criticizing Bourgeois. Though the assailant confessed to a diluted version of the incident and apologized to his victim, Bourgeois continued to absorb criticism for her courageous reporting.
In July 2006, Ronée joined TightLip Entertainment as Public Relations Director. She recently resigned, however, in wake of controversy over the publisher's erratic behavior regarding monies owed to creators contracted for its projects. What A Girl Wants has been on hiatus since July, waiting for a new home. An agreement struck in the wake of recent events now brings WAGW into the fold of websites at Michael Netzer Online, heralding a revival of the fan favorite column.
What A Girl Wants will feature an additional ongoing blog by Ronée, a discussion forum, image & video archives and more. Look for it on January 1st.
