Why Is It Rude to Ask The Price?
Polity
Written by Rene Thompson

ComdolizaBarbara Boxer has been attacked for asking a reasonable question about the continuation of a failed policy,"Who will pay the price?"

Right wing pundits have said that Ms. Boxer was attacking Ms. Rice personally for not having children in an effort to deflect the attention from the question. Ms. Boxer was making a valid point that as President Bush flails to save his legacy he doesn’t recognize that in ignoring the people who have begged him to reconsider, he has ignored the very individuals who will pay the ultimate price for this last gasp.

The majority of the American populace, the American military, the Iraqi people and their newly elected officials have all made it clear that they don’t want more American troops involved in the Iraqi Civil War.

Only immediate members of this administration seem to be hell-bent to go through with this. Many of them also have a financial, as well as a political, stake in keeping this sinking boat rowing: everyone from Dick Cheney (Haliburton stock) to Condoleeza Rice (Chevron stock) to even George’s Uncle Bucky (ESSI stock) have benefited from the war in Iraq.

The pundits needn’t hide the question of who’s paying the price. We are and we are well aware of it. The question they really should hide from is who will benefit and how many of our children will have to die for them to get it and why hasn’t the price we have already paid been enough.
