Warren Ellis has fallen in love with the Russian word for, among other things, science-fiction. From his emailer, Bad Signal, earlier today:
* In clicking around, I discover a word. Fantastika. Fantastika appears to be the Russian word for speculative, slipstream or science fiction. Isn't that a gorgeous word? Fantastika. Much better than fantastique. Fantastique is arch. Fantastika is spiky.
But a little later, the infatuation grows:
For the rest of this week, I may only be addressed as
Comrade Fantastika.
...
Or possibly Lord Fantastika.
Baron Fantastika?
President Fantastika.
El Presidente Fantastika?
...
I can't decide now. It's your fault.
Out to dinner. See you on the other side.
