The Onion Analogy
Growing Earth - GE Physics

Here I go out on a limb again. Although I basically agree with the moderate and reasonable stance on accretion, I would suggest that Earth growth could also be called Earth manufacture, and material deposition isn't all that comes from space. I think there is a source of energy that drives the mechanism of growth/manufacture and also a source of substance or catalyst for its production. Both must come together in the core to produce the growth.

Consider: why does the Earth have poles anyway? Why is North magnetic? Why is Antarctica loaded with frozen water? What are auroras doing? Why is the Equator the hottest even tho it is angled from the sun?

I ask you to consider the improbable analog of the Onion, which, after all, is a natural product, as is the Earth, just a slightly different scale. But dissectible.

The onion brings in heat energy from its North end, its nutrients from its South. They come together through the central axis into the central bulb, where the little onion layers begin to expand, one by one. It is a fascinating study - I won't bore you with the details. Only to suggest that there is more than one way to look at Earth growth, not all of them theoretical.

You might call this a REAL "root" cause.
