Growing Earth - GE History

In Dec. 1982, I presented my 1980 discovery that the Asian trenches fitted North America, and the Australian trenches fitted South America. They fit perfectly, so, therefore, one MUST conclude that the entire Pacific Ocean basin has been added to Earth's surface area in the last ~200 Ma. But the establishment won't buy it because of their belief Earth's diameter has been the same for ~4.5 billion years and that subduction (UGHH!) keeps it the same size--despite the very rapid increase (~8-16 cm/yr) in the South Pacific seafloor along the East Pacific Rise AND continued expansion of the Atlantic by ~2-4 cm/yr--to say nothing of the seafloor increase in the Southern Ocean surrounding Antarctica that is increasing the entire Antarctic plate and expanding it outward from Earth's center.

In the last 23 years I repeated this same story in different ways so many times to so many different individuals and organizations I lost count. My frustration reached the point where I started trying to figure out WHY educated scientists could not comprehend such a simple concept, and about two years ago it hit me that the Nebular Hypothesis and its assumption of a constant diameter was the reason. Then I realized that I could disprove the NH by showing that the 1.6 km (1 mile) depth of earth and rock that was dated back to the Precambrian DID NOT EXIST ON THIS PLANET ONE BILLION YEARS AGO. Therefore, the planet COULD NOT POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN CREATED ~4.5 Ga, because IT IS STILL GROWING IN SIZE because of constant external accretion of dust and meteorites, and internal thermal expansion that now exceeds the external growth rate, and both continue simultaneously.

Look at it this way: Remove that 1.6 km (1 mile) of surface matter and you reduce Earth's radius by that same amount--AND Earth's geologic history for the past billion years is wiped off the face of the planet.

Based on this discovery, my position is that anyone using the ASSUMED AGE OF ~4.5-4.6 BILLION YEARS as the age of the Earth is putting garbage into his computer and expecting a rational output. Let's face reality: An approximate age for the Earth (or any planet) is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to ascertain and we should focus on establishing the earliest possible and verifiable date in geologic history (such as breakup of the continents and formation of the oceans) and proceed from there.

The present and the future are what counts; forget the distant past that can be nothing more than APPROXIMATE GUESSES. WHEN will Earth reach the size of Neptune (or before) when it has developed a thick gaseous envelope and the human race will no longer be able to exist on this planet? The only hope for the future of Mankind that I can foresee is migration to a new home on Mars, which is now at the same growth stage Earth went through when it was the same size and just starting to develop an atmosphere and surface H2O. The polar ice caps are just precursors of the H2O that will materialize with further volcanism.

If you have doubts about the volume of meteorites and dust accreting from space, just go back and take a hard look at all the Mars Rover photos of meteorites (good-sized ones) that stretch as far as the eye can see. And I have not yet heard a single statement from NASA that these MIGHT be meteorites. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that in the early stages of Earth's growth it received similar volumes of meteorites and dust from outer space but they are now hidden from sight by subsequent accretion--just like the dinosaurs that once lived in the sunlight on a much smaller Earth.

To my knowledge, the only SOLID MASS coming into the solar system is in the form of comets. They are numerous and very large, and their remnants become either meteoroids or meteor streams--hundreds of them. The meteoroids grow by accreting dust and colliding or amalgamating with other meteoroids or asteroids, and eventually grow into planets. The 27 or more remnants of Comet Shoemaker-Levy that plunged into Jupiter provided a good example of this process, which I have named the Accreation Concept (1972). If only they had struck Mars or the Moon where we could be studying them first-hand.

Those of you participating on this EENet who tout unseen (and unseeable) quantum particles such as neutrinos, dark matter, quarks, etc., either internally or externally, will get nowhere until such time as you can devise a plausible mechanism to convert them into SOLID MASS. I'm willing to be convinced, but I don't think you can prove it. Until then I will stick with comets and their residues, things that can be seen and weighed. I have already shown that the Sun's immense energy output can be converted to solid matter (coal beds) by photosynthesis. If you can do the same for other sources of energy you will become famous.

This effort to convince the scientific establishment that they are heading down a dead-end path is worth the time and effort of every one of us. I first caught the EE virus on Feb. 14, 1965, in Seoul, Korea, when I read an AP article questioning the source of the energy needed to fuel expansion of the planet that Professor S. Warren Carey had proposed in 1956. In July of 1965 the answer came to me intuitively--meteorites and dust from outer space, and all my research since then has verified this initial idea. My 23 years of retirement since 1982 have been devoted almost exclusively to this objective, but I don't know how much longer I will be able to continue, physically, that is. I urge each and every one of you to pitch in, use your active imaginations, and try every means possible to convince the world of science that there is a new, and better, way to look at this planet. It is more important than I can express to you.

Very sincerely,
Larry Myers
