I believe, fundamentally, things have to be SIMPLE. It troubles me that the magical property of positive & neg. must be assigned without a mechanism. What makes pos. & neg. attract? Why not use male, female? What is it? I think the answer to that question will provide us with a more workable model.
This question I would like answered: How can there be a limit to small, or large? It's been indicated there was no end to big, why should there be a small limit? I just can't get behind the magic of pos/neg attraction when that force can be explained simply with an ever decreasing particle size - just as all observed interactions.
Doesn't matter how small they get, each will have the same energy. Larger go slower, smaller faster. Itty bitties are super fast but all pack the same punch. Example: in a gas mixture of heavy atoms, say Xenon (131) and hydrogen (1) you have both atoms having the same average KE. The H must have a velocity much greater to have the same KE. Particles of larger size will have a certain number of smaller ones of another general size associated with it due to clumping caused by bombardment by high speed super itty bitties & etc right on down. This would create a virtual soup of prime-matter sizes that could mimic a plastic, gas, liquid or even solid.
Notice the atomic weight of elements never seems to be an even number. There is no exact anything, no exact atom size, you can only speak of average size. That's the way it is with all particles on down. The size of an atom only has meaning when they're packed in a solid & you're then talking about average distance between nucleii, kept apart by the energetic electron soup. An atom size by itself in space is rather undefined.
Also, are we that vain to think we just happen to be here to experience the one & only life & death cycle of this universe? Come on! I suggest that the cycle has repeated & will repeat forever as can be imagined. I think not of big bang, but Big Bounce. |
